Optima Nexus prepared a comparison study between EU specification on Railway Operation and Traffic Management (TSI OPE) and Swiss Train Operating Regulations (Fahrdienstvorschriften) for the smartrail 4.0 industry programme

EU has published several regulations and specifications aiming to enhance the interoperability, safety and performance of the European rail area. Some of them are of high importance for Switzerland as well such as the Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSIs).

On behalf of the smartrail 4.0 programme, Optima Nexus carried out a comparative analysis between one of the TSIs – TSI OPE (Operation and Traffic Management Subsystem of the Rail System) and Swiss Train Operating Regulations (FDV, Fahrdienstvorschriften).

In this report, an evaluation logic is applied to assess the similarities, differences, and conflicts of 21 selected topics. The results show that there are discrepancies over 9 topics including Identification of trains, degraded operation, procedure of reporting, technical knowledge, train readiness, train composition, communication, route compatibility, health requirement and control. These topics need to be further reviewed and reformed and detailed suggestions are given in the report.

The report is available in both English and German, accessible at the smartrail 4.0 website .
